The Much Awaited Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton WBO Super Featherweight World Title Fight is now confirmed for February 27 in the UK with a venue yet to be decided. This announcement comes with the BBBofC on Monday allowing Boxing to continue from Mid-February after banning it for January. Initially agreed for June 13 in Belfast, it is now rescheduled for February 27.

Both fighters are signed with Bob Arum’s Top Rank but the fight is taking place in the UK so will be a joint promotion between US Company Top Rank and UK promoter Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton will be broadcasted on BT Sport in the UK and ESPN in the United States.

The winner of Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton will be immediately mandated to fight WBO mandatory and Ex-Featherweight Titleist Shakur Stevenson. Herring, WBO Super-Featherweight champion, was ordered to defend against Stevenson in September but Top Rank Successfully requested the WBO to allow Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton to take place next with Stevenson guaranteed the winner.

In Addition to this, Top Rank also promotes WBC Champion Miguel Berchelt who is set to defend his title against Oscar Valdez on February 20. Jamel Herring, Carl Frampton, Miguel Berchelt, Oscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson are all with Top Rank which means that whoever wins out of the Berchelt-Valdez fight and Herring-Frampton-Stevenson triangle, we could still see a unification fight in late 2021 or early 2022.

Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton: Frampton’s Last Attempt At A World Title?

Jamel Herring Vs Carl Frampton Agreed After Frampton Wins On Top Rank Debut.

Carl Frampton is a two-weight world champion and after losing to Josh Warrington in December 2018 on PPV, Frampton opted to move up to super-featherweight and become a 3-weight world champion. To do so, he signed with Top Rank and was scheduled to make his TR/130-pound debut on August 10 but a freak hand injury saw that postponed to November 30 where he successfully outpointed Tyler McCreary.

Frampton then immediately set his eyes on a fight with WBO champion Jamel Herring and terms were agreed for Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton to take place June 13 in Belfast, but the pandemic saw that postponed. Frampton fought Darren Traynor at Lightweight in August to prepare for this fight where he scored a seventh-round TKO.

Herring also boxed; in September beating Jonathon Oquendo via disqualification. Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton is now again set to take place February 27 in the UK except this time instead of 20-30,000 in Belfast, there will be no crowds. This is a 50/50 fight although the bookies may favour Carl Frampton due to his popularity.

Herring is two years older at 35 and they are both definitely past their prime. A win here for either man could set up a big 2021 including Shakur Stevenson and a unification fight, however, a loss might mean retirement for either men. Frampton’s last goal in boxing is to become a 3-weight champion and should he be unsuccessful on February 27, he is unlikely to get another shot.

Should Carl Frampton win he would create history and become the first Irish/Nothern Irish fighter to become a 3-weight world champion.
