Coronavirus: Trump retweets call for health adviser Anthony Fauci to be sacked | ABC News

US President Donald Trump has retweeted a post calling for the Government’s top infectious disease expert, Doctor Anthony Fauci, to be fired.

It started when Dr Fauci acknowledged to CNN’s Jake Tapper that imposing social distancing measures earlier could have saved lives.

“Obviously if we had, right from the very beginning, shut everything down it may have been a little bit different but there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then,” Dr Fauci told CNN.

A Republican former Congressional candidate then tweeted Dr Fauci’s comments along with criticism and demanding he be fired with the hashtag #FireFauci.

Mr Trump retweeted that post, rejecting criticism and saying he “banned China long before people spoke up”.

The US has more than 557,000 recorded cases of coronavirus and 22,109 deaths.
