Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s government could be under threat, yet again. His key ally, political party UMNO, wants to go it alone at the next election. It has allegedly asked all UMNO ministers to quit to try to force a general election. It’s not the first time Mr Muhyiddin has come under pressure from UMNO, which holds the largest number of seats in his PN coalition. But with a raging COVID-19 pandemic and the rollout of vaccines likely to begin in March, health authorities have said a nationwide election now may be unwise.
